Positive Minds Hub

Supporting Young People with their Mental Health and Building Resilience

Sadly, there has been an increase in mental health issues for young people. The pressures of social media and cost of living are affecting them. There is also a lack of local opportunities and jobs. Student debt is increasing, and cuts to services, lack of affordable housing options are contributing to the increase.

For younger children & teenagers, issues like reduced family disposable income has an impact. It means opportunities to join in out of school recreational activities are affected. The result, is often less social contact, increased screen/ scrolling time. At a time when cuts to schools budgets and vital learning support staff are being lost.

Young people with additional support needs are at greater risk, as often stretched services means they slip through the net. The positive minds hub, aims to fill this gap.

We want to create a safe place. We see this as a proactive and preventative project. We aim to alleviate some of the pressures from young people before they escalate. We intend to achieve this through ongoing groups and various pieces of work.

We want to provide:

  • Support and counselling
  • Understanding Autism workshops
  • Safe lunch time space
  • Peers groups for yp with protected characteristic
  • Access to quiet homework space
  • Signposting
  • Parent workshops, looking at how to support young people with MH issues.
